In the second year of the American Civil War, former Union sergeant-turned bounty hunter Jeb Daniels is charged with tracking down an escaped convict. In a twist of fate, Daniels discovers that his quarry is none other than Joe Carson, a young soldier who saved Daniels' life in the Battle of Glorieta Pass. With a ruthless trio of rival bounty hunters hot on their trail, a tense standoff ensues between Daniels and Carson. Neither man wants to kill the other -- if they can help it.
