When Kees, 42, and his two children, 12-year-old Roos and 6-year-old Willem, stop at a gas station for a quick toilet break, they briefly separate, each going his/her own way. In this short period of time, each witnesses something which makes them think about themselves. Willem accidentally witnesses a couple making love in the bushes and doesn't know how to deal with it. Tomboy Roos starts thinking about who she wants to be after another girl mistakes her for a boy. Divorced Kees thinks a younger woman is flirting with him; when he finds out she wasn't flirting at all, he realizes that he has entered a new period of his life and must find his place. Each character experiences his or her own separate life-tilt.
