Fit to Be Queen
Anne Phung Nguyen was crowned Miss Viet Nam of Southern California 2014. She is most well known for rocking the stage when she defied beauty and cultural stereotypes within the pageant when she decided to weight lift 65 lbs over her head on stage in front of hundreds during the Tet Festival pageant. Since then, she has become a personal fitness trainer and is now an upcoming competing NPC bikini body builder. However, despite great success from her crowning at the 2014 pageant, Anne Phung faces the obstacles of many beauty and cultural stereotypes within the Southern California Vietnamese community through her reign. "Fit to be Queen" follows Anne Phung through her journey and reign, from the moment she is crowned to the moment she crowns the next Miss Vietnam of Southern California 2015. Commentary from Anne Phung Nguyen as well as fellow alumni contestants, staff members, and sponsors of Miss Viet Nam also join this narrative, such as Caroline Vu (Queen 2013), Viktor NL (advisor, past director), Jacky Tai (designer, hair and makeup), and Quyen Di (2014 Judge, well renown Vietnamese language and culture lecturer).
