We're Gonna Make (Y)our Film
Ben and Tad are two screenwriters fresh out of film school. On their first day in Hollywood, they visit an agent who, for reasons of her own, guarantees their film will be produced. She coerces her soon to be ex husband, a former boxer and once great action star, whose worsening brain injury sustained on the night of his professional boxing debut has sidelined his career, to act as executive producer. Not wanting to work with a director with too many ideas of his own, he in turn, hires a once great director who couldn't make the transition from film to digital. Lost in a haze of cobbled together spirituality and a steady supply of really stellar weed, he promises the screenwriters that, together, they will make, not just a film, but Art. And do so using nothing but his cell phone. As shooting progresses, the boys try to keep their faith as the budget shrinks, everything from the title to the characters are changed, and the director spends more time trying to get into the robe of the young starlet than he does behind camera. Add in a cougar secretary, a Oscar winning actor's lookalike, and increasing tension between the boys and the film they wind up making looks nothing like the story they wanted to tell. And it just might be Hollywood's next big thing..
