Miyuki is married to a police officer, Iwao. Despite being constantly treated harshly by her mother-in-law, Satoko, whom Miyuki disliked even before the marriage, she manages to get through her newlywed life. However, just nine months into their marriage, her police officer husband is shot and killed by a methamphetamine addict . Miyuki receives approximately 60 million yen from Iwao's life insurance and condolence money, but her mother-in-law, Satoko, and sister-in-law, Kasumi, take it all. However, she then receives a condolence payment collected from police officers all over the country, amounting to approximately 110 million yen. Hoping to make the most of this large sum of money, a group of unsavory characters, including her father Shigeru, her high school friend Keiko, the owner of a multi-tenant building, Haruyo, and Takahito, who tries to seduce her, begin to approach Miyuki.
