An explorer-in-residence from Plymouth University took an iPad mini on his solo expedition to the South Pole to control aerial camera drones. While there he composed music inspired by his journey. Antony Jinman collaborated with Plymouth University composer Dr Alexis Kirke, who selected a number of apps that make it simple for non-musicians to compose music. Kirke was keen to gain insight into how composing can help the physically isolated and stressed explorer to regulate and express his emotional state. Traveling to the South Pole by foot was arduous and isolating. He had an array of electronics including a small laptop, an iridium satellite phone, which provides internet connectivity and Parrot AR drones. These were be used with a Go-Pro camera to take aerial shots.
