Jean Belay, a worker who loves his job and an irreproachable colleague, is retiring after thirty years at the same factory. What will become of him? The camera follows the new retiree during one of his days away from work, at the café in the morning, playing cards with his friends in the afternoon, bringing a little warmth to his best friend, who has recently been widowed. In the evening, he finds himself alone in the solitude of his apartment.
