After reading science fiction, Leykin invents his own project of a time machine and sends the painted Barmaleykin into the future. There he meets himself from the future, who predicts he will fail the exam and advises him to better prepare for it. Instead, Barmaleykin travels back in time to eliminate exam topics: first to thwart Newton's discovery of the law of universal gravitation, and then to destroy other scientific discoveries, and finally to change the course of the evolution of life on Earth.
