Zenaida
Zenaida is torn from her life as a college student as her country slides into civil war. Her boyfriend, Sabino, and love of her life suddenly leaves to join the guerrilla movement after many students are killed during a student demonstration. Zenaida drops out of college and tries fleeing war-torn El Salvador with her mother but they get stranded in the Arizona desert by their guides and her mother dies. Zenaida returns to El Salvador and joins the guerrilla movement in search of her lost boyfriend and justice for her mother's death. Zenaida is sent to the guerrilla headquarters where the commander falls in love with her as Zenaida struggles with her love for Sabino and deep admiration for the commander.
