The story begins with Ding Peng, who has been released from prison, returning to society and attempting to retrieve a notebook containing evidence of the former provincial party secretary's rehabilitation. The notebook was originally stored with his ex-wife Liu Xiaodi, but was stolen by her current husband Chen Feng and handed over to businessman Ouyang Zhi. With the mysterious death of Liu Xiaodi, the police have listed Ding Peng as a key suspect, and mysterious individuals are tracking Ding Peng. Public Security Director Wei Feng led police officer Ma Bin to conduct an investigation and found that the case involved complex interest relationships. Ding Peng, in order to prove his innocence, risked infiltrating Ouyang's mansion to obtain key evidence and ultimately uncovered the truth. The film uses a dual narrative to depict the collision between personal fate and the changes of the times.
