In the very near future, two men from the Life Protection Bureau, a division of the State Department of Women's Health, visit Maria Parthenos. They have been informed by an A.I. algorithm regarding her daughter's usage of an app that tracks her menstrual cycle. Lilith is six weeks late, which flags the department to send Matthew and Stearne on a "Wellness Check". Matthew paints a bleak picture of Lilith's future as Stearne is increasingly uncomfortable with his role in policing women's bodily autonomy. Lilith locks herself into a bathroom with a knife, willing to take her own future into her hands, rather than give it over to heteronormative, patriarchal thugs.
