In their final year of high school, students are inducted into a new earpiece-based AI technology. As a company representative extols the virtues of the earpieces, each student is given their own, and many of them connect instantly with their 'new best friend'. But not everyone welcomes the new technology, nor is everyone included by it. One girl finds herself on the outside of what everyone around her is experiencing, and discovers how hard it is to pretend that nothing is wrong.
