Seven-Minute Walden

DocumentaryShortHistoryWar

Aware of the historic reality in which he lived, Henry David Thoreau stood at the precipice of the industrial age, looked out at the expanding American frontier and perceived the coming of a new natural order. From the peak of modernity today, we can see farther than ever as the wilderness returns, and we again rethink a new natural order. This three-channel video installation was composed using source footage from national surveys of homemade recreational battlefields and a new generation of off-grid homesteaders. Both of the compared worlds are highly facilitated by on line communities, social media, gaming, open source sharing and video tutorials.
