Between October 30 and November 10, 1950, around a hundred members of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party took up arms in eight towns on the island and in the capital of the United States with the intention of proclaiming the Republic of Puerto Rico. The nationalists had the courage to fight, some poorly armed and others unarmed, against forces that outnumbered them and had superior military equipment.
