Riot
Malcolm and Aniyah are in the dining hall, having a mundane conversation about classes which doesn't really interest Malcolm. He has an urging thought on his mind that he feels he can't vocalize in their current setting. As Aniyah continues to talk, Malcolm drifts his focus to the line of students who are all wearing the same color sweater - gray with a number to label them and black pants. Malcolm watches as a kid gets bland potatoes slapped onto his plate. Malcolm interrupts Aniyah, begins complaining about the food, and inquires why they don't serve anything else here. Their back and forth beliefs on the university gets heated which grabs the attention of a nearby guard who confronts the two about their conversation. This causes Malcolm and Aniyah to be vacated from the premises. Malcolm walks over to the tray area and disposes of his food angrily. Malcolm walks outside over to a fire pit to reflect and calm himself, staring into the fire. Aniyah trails behind him and they spend a moment looking at the fire. Aniyah breaks the silence by asking Malcolm what is on his mind. Taking a seat, Malcolm responds and admits that he doesn't know if he can live like this much longer. Aniyah, worried and confused, asks for a more clear explanation. Malcolm explains how they are all being conditioned and trained to fit in their system. Aniyah questions whether he is going to drop out, and stresses to him that this university is meant to help them. Just when Aniyah is about to explain her thoughts, two guards burst outside in a hurry to leave. This causes Malcolm to pursue them to find out what's going on.
