Asherah's Colors
On their first date, a sassy, spirited ASHERAH (18) almost gets into a car wreck driving her beau, RAPHAEL (21). Raphael has no car or money and directs Asherah to park in a nearby lot. He then ties Asherah's hair scarf over her eyes, promising a surprise just around the corner. Tripping over a curb, Asherah asks Raphael for a piggyback ride to avoid further obstacles. She hops on, and they proceed to an art gallery where a curator named ZIA provides entry. The gallery belongs to Raphael's father's close friend, HESSAM. When they first met, Asherah shared her love of art with Raphael, giving him the idea for a unique first date. The two enter a world infused with LIGHT and COLOR. Hessam is hidden behind a large canvas on an easel in the back studio room. A paint war soon breaks out between the two protagonists. Running around the studio, they use water paints to color each other's faces. Hessam comes from his hidden spot behind the easel and explains his work as merging cultures. Art reflects life. A witty remark from Raphael, which Asherah takes exception to, forces her to leave the room to compose herself. The two quickly make up, though, following Raphael's apology. Raphael and Asherah join Hessam and his wife, STAR, for Italian pastries and wine. Asherah reveals that she was born in Israel but is an orphan. There is a brief moment of discomfort, but Asherah's quick thinking puts everyone at ease. Raphael then raises a glass of Percoche and tells Asherah she makes him a better man. Asherah gets a little tipsy, and Raphael offers to drive them home. Before departing, Asherah admires the portrait of Star that Hessam has just completed. The two potential lovers head back into the night and get into the car, with Raphael now driving. Raphael kisses Asherah after looking deep into her ocean-blue eyes. Raphael almost has a wreck on their way out. Jumping ahead a few years, Raphael studies a painting by Hessam of Asherah from that first date hanging on his bedroom wall.
