Travis is a gloomy writer unable to come to terms with the fact that his girlfriend Lorena has suddenly deserted him. His depression is furthered by cynical film critic Ralph Brown's callous remarks. Feeling he's losing his grip on reality, Travis decides to escape the oppressive environment of Metropolis and boards a train to the coast. In a shady seaside hotel run by Mark, Travis sees both his fears and dreams come to life.
