She Cried Douglas
My father, Jim Von Stein, worked in as an HVAC technician for many years in Chattanooga, Tennessee for Chattanooga Heating and Air. He was often known as "the dude" because of his long hair, beard, and calm demeanor. HVAC often requires the technician to crawl under houses to check and work on duct in the crawlspace. One day, my father was working under a house, in the crawlspace, when he saw a light coming from the the vents on the side of the house. The light shined down on something in his dirt, almost as if heaven was sending my Dad a signal to come see it. With his elbows and knees, my father crawled over to the light to find this picture, of a couple from 1944, Douglas and Georgia. Assuming the photo belonged to the homeowners, my father crawled out of the crawlspace, to give the photo to them. The homeowners looked at the photo, and told my father, they did not know the couple in the photo. They told my father, he can keep the photo, if he would like. My father thanked them for the generosity and accepted the photo. On his lunch break that day, my father was inspired by looking at this photo, to write a song called "She Cried Douglas" The music video tells both my father's story and the story of the couple in the photo.
