"The Stuff of Sound" is a mixture between experimental concert film and documentary. Four concerts were designed especially for this film. The sound artist Helmut Bieler-Wendt studied objects found in various places on their acoustic quality. Some of the objects were recorded in picture and sound, also the process of searching was documented. The new produced material is the starting point for four compositions that originated in reciprocal steps of image and sound editing. The documentary part shows how the compositions were made. An acoustic expedition through a quarry, a museum, a fabric workshop and a garage.
