Boyz Nite Out/Grrlz Nite in
A bizarre, experimental dark comedy satirizing multiple genres and tropes. Ostensibly "based on a true story", the film follows two parallel narratives: a couple of "Boyz" getting together to play video games and drink beer and a bunch of "Grrlz" coming together to talk about their lives, dreams, disappointments, and other issues. But it's all revealed to be a carefully constructed facade, designed to provoke, and ultimately collapses in on itself. As all pretense is cast aside, everything goes off the rails in a final act that forces the viewer to confront their own internalized notions of what passes for entertainment as sinister implications of the tried and true tropes of film-historic conventions are laid bare.
