Faraway
Rachel is a Chinese-born Canadian and cannot speak Chinese, but this doesn't stop her from having a relationship with her Chinese-speaking Grandmother. Over many years, Rachel teachers her Grandmother English, starting with 'French fries'. Everything changes years later, when Rachel is asked to help Grandmother prepare for New Year's. Once Rachel arrives, she discovers that her Grandmother has forgotten all of her English. Rachel and Grandmother fumble through their day. Both women struggle and must face a deciding question: can language stand between two people? 'Faraway' is about two women who must learn how to connect on a different level. Together, they learn to disregard the importance of language and connect through different means - not to save their day, but to save their relationship.
