Between the Harvest
When the Costa Rican government legalized the harvest of endangered sea turtle eggs, a small coastal community was infused with cash and crime; and in turn, a world-wide heated debate began over the legitimacy of such a sanction. Between the Harvest illustrates the local and global impact of Ostional's community project by delving into the complex co-existence of two fragile species. It demonstrates how the villagers' daily struggles can be exemplary of mankind's dilemma with nature: can limited resources ever be sustainable? And if not, then what will the people do when the turtles disappear? While the debate continues, it is evident that the people of Ostional just may be an exception to the global ban on the harvesting of endangered species.
