2005

Falling Skies is an alien invasion in America's Boston. The focus is on a militia unit the '2nd Mass' in which History professor Tim Mason and his two elder sons, Hal and the initially harnessed Ben are fighters. The leader is Weaver and he is a damaged man who ultimately accepts he needs support. Teenagers are kidnapped by the invaders and 'harnessed' and work under the mind control of 'skitters', whom it later transpires, have another complexity to their role. The primary aliens are introduced late in season 1 The three levels of invader (of course there are robotic fighters) add an interesting dimension to Falling Skies and this makes for some complexity of warfare slightly above the obvious. There are several seasons to develop the plot which lets viewers develop a connection between the cause and effect and personal relationships between various characters and events. With 5 seasons and 52 episodes to engage with. Worth a look and good for most age groups of sci-fi fans to watch. Elements of the dystopian collapse of America and a lack of the polish and swish of high budget comic book franchises make it a worthwhile watch.
