It's the late sixties in Los Angeles, California. The film industry is undergoing drastic changes, but people are still finding it hard to let go of the "old way" of clean-cut musicals and historical epics and get with the newer more cynical and explicit wave of filmmaking. Colson, a 25-year-old director finds himself watching the final-cut of his newest picture Soldier of Conquest in the studio's screening room. All of a sudden the film stops, he asks his editor and projectionist, Frankie, what happened. Frankie tells him that the Studio Head demanded the scene to be cut and handed to him at his office. Colson, with a plan in mind, storms off and heads to his boss's office.
