Das Glück der schönen Creszenz
Stephan Fern, a painter, has to renounce his love for Lu, the daughter of the art dealer Bozenberg. His friend Josef Baldmoser introduces him to the house of old Pörtschacher so that he can find distraction in the countryside. More out of defiance than out of love, he returns the sympathy of his daughter Creszenz and makes her his wife. The further plot now brings to the fore the contrast between the two differently inclined husbands, which is still intensified when the painter, with his increasing successes, regains access to the most distinguished society and meets his childhood lover here. Creszenz leaves her husband, who learns too late to appreciate the happiness she has brought him.
