In a Riga sanitarium by the Baltic coast 1968. Lidija, an elderly but still youthful and life affirming divorcee is treated by Rodion, a crusty, aging, widowed surgeon. They are both of conservative upbringing and carry a lifelong expertise in keeping up appearances. As they slowly peel off layers of their life stories, however, Lidija manages to melt Rodion's lonely heart. The doctor patient relationship develops into a full blown romance. TV adaptation of Arbuzov's 1977 Broadway play.
