About Colonia is the story of Colonia, a nineteen-year-old nursing student who lives in a tiny apartment in Brooklyn with her eccentric and religiously conservative single mother, LucĂa. LucĂa has only one wish for her daughter; that she marries a soldier and put herself on the stable path to a pension and the American Dream. As a first-generation immigrant from the Caribbean raised in New York City, Colonia yearns for more. Yet, her aspirations are tested by an increasingly intimate connection with the sacred spiritual world of Santeria.
