The Picture on the Wall

1915
ShortDrama

The picture on the wall of his saloon is that of Lillian, Dave's daughter, whom Dave has never heard from since her elopement with Fred, a young civil engineer, a year before. Dave does not know that Lillian has been happily married, because Bill, the postman, the jilted lover, never gave the letter which she sent her father. He does not know, too that Bill had gone to Lillian's home and told her that her father was dead, and that Fred, the husband, on finding the two together had gone away angrily on an expedition to Central America, thinking his wife untrue to him, and that Lillian had sent the impostor Bill from her house and had gone to a ranch as a cook determined to earn her living. As Dave meditates, Fred, returned from the expedition, enters to get some whiskey for a woman who has fainted on the street. Dave, recognizing him, follows. When the fainting woman revives, Fred, Lillian and Dave find themselves face to face. Explanations follow and all are happy again.
