Based on the true story of ex-social worker Maria Helena Moreira Alves, who, in the 70s Brazil of military dictatorship, was fired from her job on account of her political involvement, arrested, tortured, and then managed to be exiled in Lisbon. Struggling with leukemia and with no financial resources to raise her 3 month old son, she and her husband were forced to hand the child to a friend, at Lisbon airport, to deliver him to his grandparents, back in Brazil.
