Jean, a modern cynical journalist, meets a strange pilgrim in a convent in Seville who tells him about the adventures of Miguel de Mnatra, a sort of repentant Don Juan of the 17th century who ends his life in the orders and rests in the crypt of the convent. Jean resumes his life as a debaucher, seduces a young blond ephebe, escapes a jealous husband and a furious Amazon, experiments with various illicit substances with American hippies and even wins a lady at poker, but he gradually realizes the uselessness of his life.
