Kogarashi Monjiro Returns
Monjiro Kogarashi is an itinerant samurai who wanders through Japan without fixed ties, avoiding involvement in the problems of others whenever possible. During his travels, he intervenes when he encounters Tsunehei, a man being pursued and threatened, rescuing him from a potentially fatal situation. In gratitude, Tsunehei offers Monjiro hospitality and brings him to a local teahouse, where he is introduced to a geisha named Omitsu. As Monjiro observes Omitsu, he begins to notice unsettling signs connected to a family past he believed to be long lost. It is gradually revealed that Omitsu is in fact his elder sister, from whom he was separated many years earlier under tragic circumstances. Their reunion forces Monjiro to confront memories he has long suppressed and places him at a crossroads between continuing his solitary life as a wanderer or protecting the last remaining bond to his family. The town they inhabit is controlled by rival yakuza factions engaged in territorial disputes and power struggles. Omitsu is trapped within this dangerous environment, used as a pawn in a larger scheme involving extortion, coercion, and economic control. By choosing to protect her, Monjiro becomes unavoidably drawn into conflicts that directly oppose his personal code of detachment and non-interference. Along the way, Monjiro encounters a young itinerant gambler who deeply admires him and begins to follow him, seeing the samurai as a symbol of honor and strength.
