Antoaneta and Kiril are at the worker's club in a large railway yard. The boy tells her about his plans for their future, about their love. Antoaneta, however, is ill at ease. She leaves the room and get into the car. Behind the wheel is the lawyer Tahov, a man past his prime, the target of her mother's matchmaking aspirations. During a dinner at the Tahovs', where his engagement with Antoaneta is to be announced, both mother and daughter realize that the girl cannot be happy in the stuff-mannered Tahov family. Antoaneta runs away in the middle of the diner. Still in her white dress, she storms into railway yard. There is her beloved Kiril with whom she will now never part
