It is a wonderful summer's day - and love at first sight - when young violinist Werning from Lumbye's Tivoli orchestra meets the beautiful miss Amelie. Unfortunately, Amelie is the daughter of wealthy wine wholesaler Hambroe, who has his eyes on a far more suitable party for his daughter - the sleazy and debt-ridden Baron von Listow. The two lovers therefore have to go through an awful lot before they finally get each other to the sparkling tunes of Lumbye's music.
