Chased by the military police force, the partisans Boyka and Anton take refuge in a cave. A grenade explosion dislodges the rock, which seals off the passage. In the morning, they hear someone knock on the rock. Anton, an experienced member of resistance, rightly guesses that these are the police. The only way out is to swim downs the stream of underground river. They take the risk and escape unharmed. Boyka desires to see her mother one more time. She runs away from Anton. He rejoins the partisan unit. The HQ allows him to find the girl and prevent a betrayal. In the city, he is arrested. Confronted with Boyka, Anton does not give away that he knows her. A black police van takes Boyka to her death. Anton escapes from the police officer who guards him. A woman dresses his wound and with her help, Anton makes his way to his fellow-partisans.
