Unknown people committed a daring robbery of the Samokhins' apartment. The next day, one of the participants in the crime was found murdered. At first, suspicion falls on the former criminal Timofey Yamtsov. After the arrest, Yamtsov escapes from custody, which seemed to only aggravate his guilt. However, Colonel Zorin, who is entrusted with the investigation, is not developing Yamtsov at all, but is trying to understand what exactly the criminals were hunting for in a poor apartment.
