1948. In the Pirin Mountain there is a armed gang, led by a former officer, colonel Rakov. The officials apprehended captain Gerasimov, also a former officer whose task is to meet with Rakov. State Security officer Kalinov convinces Vera, the wife of Gerasimov to introduce him to Rakov as her husband. Vera and Kalinov meet Rakov. To test Kalinov, the colonel orders him to execute the medic who is charged with treason. Kalinov carries out the order. He finds out that the gang is to leave the country. His colleagues organize a false alarm. The gang members hear the explosion and prepare to escape. They get on a track. Soon the engine stops. Spotlights are aimed at the gang. Kalinov raises his weapon to Rakov, but one of the colonel's friends kills his commander. The rest of the gang surrenders.
