George works in the shipyards of Perama and lives with his mother in the same area that is full of shacks and shantytowns. He is a self-taught architect and plans to transform their neighborhood into a decent neighborhood. To this end, he asks for the help of Mr. Skouzas. Anna Apostolou, who accidentally overhears their conversation, is fascinated by George's dream and passion. She learns that he works for her father and starts dating him. Love is not long in coming, of course, but when her boyfriend clashes with her father and is fired, she does not hesitate to follow him, becomes his wife and goes to live in her mother-in-law's shantytown. When she becomes pregnant, things get tight as George cannot find any work at the port and is forced to work in a mine. There, Skouzas finds him and announces that he agrees to help him realize his dream. One day, before he leaves the mines forever, a shaft collapses and his life is in danger, but all his colleagues rush to help him and eventually save him.
