The movie follows Selvam, a medical student and playboy, who gets blackmailed by Vasanthi into marriage. His uncle intervenes and pays her off, but Selvam drops out of college and takes over his uncle's business. He falls for Shanta, a teacher, and transforms himself for her, but she's initially unimpressed. They get married due to her parents' pressure. When Vasanthi is murdered, Selvam is wrongly accused and convicted. However, Shanta stands by him, and eventually exposes the real killer, Paramathma, leading to Selvam's release. Through this ordeal, the couple grows closer.
