Dinanath, a blind, rural actor, wants his son Suresh to marry Vani, the daughter of his neighbor and close friend Janardan. Suresh works as a lawyer at the Calcutta High Court. A wealthy landlord addressed as Roy Bahadur asks Suresh to marry his petulant daughter Rekha in exchange for a large sum of money, but Suresh refuses. Suresh then overhears a conversation between his father and Navin Chakraborty, and learns that Dinanath borrowed a large amount from Navin Chakraborty to sponsor his college education, and their property, including their ancestral house, is mortgaged to Navin Chakraborty. Navin believes Dinanath cannot repay the loan because he will not get a large dowry if Suresh marries Vani, who comes from a poor family. He threatens to take the matter to court unless Dinanath repays the debt soon. To clear the debt, Suresh goes to Roy Bahadur and agrees to marry Rekha for the money. After receiving the payment, he returns to his village and pays Navin Chakraborty. He then visits his father to tell him the debt is cleared but does not get a chance to explain how he got the money. Later, he writes to Janardan that he cannot marry Vani. This news deeply upsets Janardan and infuriates Dinanath. Dinanath, accompanied by Janardan travels to Calcutta to dissuade Suresh, but when they reach Roy Bahadur's house, they discover that Suresh has already married Rekha. Heartbroken and furious, Dinanath disowns Suresh and leaves with Janardan. On the way home, Janardan dies in an accident, which makes Dinanath resent Suresh even more. After this, Dinanath decides to arrange Vani's marriage into a suitable family. He takes on many acting jobs to save enough money. During this time, he has a serious fight with Prankesto, a fellow actor who dislikes him as his acting career is affected because of Dinanath's popularity as an actor. Prankesto maligns Suresh infuriating Dinanath who injures his head. Prankesto files a police complaint claiming that Dinanath tried to kill him. Dinanath is called to court and is shocked to discover that Suresh is his lawyer. Although Suresh wins the case for him, Dinanath still refuses to forgive his son. On the way home, Dinanath and his wife Rajlakshmi are stopped by Rekha manages to reconcile the father and the son restoring peace in the family.
