Based on Chekhov's short story is the story of a strange love quadrangle. Both the village magistrate Kamishev and the Count, the lord of the local estate, are attracted to Olenka, the forester's daughter. But Olenka is the fiancée of the Count's steward, Urbedin. And she marries him... The men are inflamed with passion over the girl, and their passions eventually lead to murder.
