In 1973 Santander (Spain) before the Law of Divorce, young naval engineer Miguel decides to civil-marry Anne, an American Philology whom he has left pregnant. But to do this, he must make a declaration of previous apostasy, something unheard-of in the conservative, provincial Spanish society; it will bring comments and suspicion from his relatives and acquaintances.
