After losing all his money playing cards, Don Mendo Salazar, Marqués de Cabra go to the house of his beloved Magdalena, daughter of a friend of the King. There, they are discovered by her fiancé, Don Pero, Duque de Toro. Don Mendo thief poses as not to stain her honor and is enclosed. Although Don Mendo promised he would not say anything about their affair, she asks her father to be executed. Don Mendo escapes with the help of his friend Moncada, and tries to carry out his revenge against Magdalena, posing as a minstrel to approach her.
