Petty Officer András Laczkó is mistaken for a nobleman after a tie change at a reception, where an influential man takes a liking to him. His bosses, in order not to offend the guest of honor and to prevent the truth from coming to light, send Laczko to the company's country estate as a ispán. The earth-loving young man from the village soon revives the farm and falls in love with the company secretary, Miss Kató. His success soon leads to trouble with his envious neighbors.
