After losing her husband to the sea, little Jens 'mother takes him from the west coast of Jutland to Copenhagen. Away from a future as a fisherman, she believes. Nevertheless, as an adult, Jens returns to his birthplace and here becomes a successful fisherman with the harbor's largest cutter. But a feud between two brothers sends Jens out in a life-threatening storm.
