After the senior high school specializing in classical studies, the Degree in Communication Sciences in Bologna and the diploma at the IED Visual Arts in Milan, he entered the world of video by shooting music video clips, short films and video installations. In 2011 he started directing and writing documentaries, becoming one of the first and most prolific directors and writer collaborating with Sky Arte, tv channel for which, in more than 10 years, he has created around 250 video contents including features, portraits, biographical documentaries and documentary series. Among them: "Odissey - in Viaggio con Bob Wilson" (2012) with the Piccolo Teatro of Milan, "Divina Bellezza - il Duomo di Siena" (2016) with Alessandro Haber, "Culture Chanel" (2017) with Kasia Smutniak, "Viae Crucis - Le 40 Ore di Taranto" (2018), "Le Tre Vite di Aquileia" (2019), "Musei" (2019-2020), series in 16 episodes for 2 seasons. "Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria" - Rinascita di un Museo" (2022).

In 2018 his first documentary film "Van Gogh of Wheat Fields and Clouded Skies" with Valeria Bruni Tedeschi debuted in more than 300 Italian cinemas, produced by 3D Produzioni and Nexo Digital, the film was first at the box office in Italy for two consecutive days and finalist at the Silver Ribbon 2019 as Best Art Documentary.

In 2019 he signed the screenplay for the biographical documentary "Are We All Alberto Sordi?" and "Ermitage the Power of Art" with Toni Servillo, winner of the Silver Ribbon 2020 as Best Art Documentary.

In 2021 "Napoleon in the Name of Art" has been released in theaters. In the film Piscaglia directed the Oscar winning actor Jeremy Irons.

In 2023 "Perugino The Eternal Renaissance" was released, directed and co-wrote by Piscaglia, produced by Ballandi Arts and distributed by Nexo Digital. The film won the Golden Gryphon at the Love Film Festival as Best Documentary 2023 and has been nominated for the Silver Ribbon 2024 as Best Art Documentary.

His documentary films are all published on DVD, distributed in over 50 countries around the world on theaters and television channels. In Italy they were broadcast by Sky Arte, Canale 5, La7, and can be purchased or viewed on on-demand platforms such as Apple TV, Nexo Plus, Mubi, Chili, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play and others.
