Yannis Zafiris was born and raised in Athens. He studied graphic design and photography with an aesthetic oriented towards conceptual - experimental self-portraiture and landscape as a dramatic tool. His connection with the cinema of Andrei Tarkovsky, Antonioni and Kiarostami, combined with film courses and seminars by renowned directors, paved the way to moving images with the thematic and aesthetics of a new poetic realism as the main axis. In 2015 he made his first short film, Rizome, which travelled to several festivals in Greece and abroad. He continued, with 3 more short films (Visit, Springtime Rest). His latest film, Plastic Flowers, travelled and won awards at 42 film festivals, from America to Nepal. His screenplay "Xene mou" was funded by the Greek Film Centre. In addition, he has worked on several independent film productions as executive producer and camera operator and was a member of the production company African Astronaut. He is in post-production on his latest short film, having already started pre-production on the next two, which will be based on the theme of "Escape". The first feature script is currently being written with a completion date in mid-2023. Since 2022, he is a member of AbFab Productions as production manager - designer.
