Cinematographer, Cai Yi, hails from the city of Changchun, in Northern China. In 2008, he went to England where he was admitted into University of Bristol's MA Film and TV production program. After graduation, he moved to London and got his first videographer job. During this time, he filmed many big events happening in London and across Europe: 2012 Olympic Games, the Royal Wedding, Queen's Diamond Jubilee, etc. Six years in the UK. not only broadened his horizons and experience but also enhanced his photographic technique and style.

He came to California in 2014 to further improve his technique in Cinematography and to take another step towards his dream, to be a film-maker. During these three years, he collaborated with several different directors and shot various short films as a DP. Working in the camera team, as a 1AC, he camera-assisted two student Academy Awards winning shorts films in 2016.

May 2017 He got his second master degree from Chapman University, Dodge College in MFA Cinematography. The Same year, he filmed his first feature film 'Kayla'. He is living in Los Angeles now, working with the different film crew between US and China as DP, keep on approaching to his goal as a film-maker, as a storyteller.
