Michela Montgomery grew up in Southern California before moving to Northern California at 10. Her father was a banker, her mother was a teacher. She is the youngest of three children. As a child, she would act and write - often winning school competitions for both. She performed in the high school drama department and "Reader's Theater". She graduated high school and returned to Southern California for college, graduating from CSU Long Beach with a BFA in Creative writing and film.

After college, she pursued writing while still working as a Commercial Insurance Consultant. She married in 1997 and divorced in 2012. She has 2 children with her ex-husband; a son born in 2000 and a daughter born in 2002. In 2015, Post Hill Press and Simon & Schuster published the first novel in her trilogy, The Cave. The second book, The Aftermath was published in 2016 and the final installment in the series came out in 2017. She was scouted by a talent agent and began taking classes on acting and modeling in 2017.
