Greg Matkosky is an Emmy and Cine Golden Eagle Award-winning filmmaker with nearly 40 years of creative and craft experience in film and television production on five continents. He received his MFA in Cinematography from the American Film Institute's Center for Advanced Film Studies in Los Angeles, and his BA in Broadcast Journalism from Penn State University.

For the first half of his career, Greg was based in LA, where he worked in the mainstream commercial and film and television industries, first as a cinematographer and then as director/cameraman. His commercial credits include national ads for Chrysler, Asics athletic shoes (Super Bowl spot), and Sega Genesis video games, among many.

The second half of Greg's career commenced with a move to into documentaries. His first, the nationally distributed feature-length dramatized documentary "Stories From The Mines" (2001), starring Academy Award nominee Jason Miller, was nominated for an Emmy Award. His second, "An Empty Place At The Table", narrated by Academy Award winning actress Susan Sarandon, won the Best Social Documentary Award at the 2004 New York Film and Video Festival.

In 2004, Greg joined PBS television Station WVIA as Creative Director for Documentary Films. During the next 12 years, he directed, photographed, wrote, edited and co- produced 18 public television documentaries, four of those feature-length. Six of those films were distributed nationally on public television. He received an Emmy Award for the jazz-themed "Remembering The Sirens". This followed his Cine Golden Eagle award-winning biopic "Frank Schoonover: The Authentic Artist". Greg has also written and directed the giant screen full-dome documentary "Expedition Chesapeake", distributed by Big Digital to IMAX theaters around the country.

Greg is a former Artist-in-Residence at the Everhart Museum and the Seaside Institute, and an advisory panelist for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. He served as a judge for the documentary division of the Emmy Award competition, and has lectured on filmmaking at numerous universities throughout the U.S., including Duke University, the University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers University, the University of Kentucky, and Bucknell University, where he was a Visiting Digital Storytelling Fellow.
