Matthew Evans is widely known as the "Gourmet Farmer." He is an Australian food writer, chef, television presenter, and farmer, most famously for his journey from being a city-based food critic to running a small farm in Tasmania. The SBS TV series Gourmet Farmer documented his move from Sydney to Tasmania's Huon Valley to live off the land, grow his own food, and become a smallholder farmer. The show highlighted the challenges and rewards of sustainable farming and connecting directly with food production. It ran for multiple seasons. Matthew, along with his partner Sadie Chrestman and son Hedley, owns and operates Fat Pig Farm in the Huon Valley, Tasmania. This 70-acre mixed holding is where they raise pigs (their namesake Wessex Saddlebacks), grow vegetables, milk cows, make cider, and produce other food.
